The Construction Begins!

ROCKLAND – March 20, 2007
– It’s a
big day for the City of Clarence-Rockland. Mayor Richard Lalonde,
with the Recreational and Cultural Complex partners, the Conseil
scolaire de district catholique de l’Est de l’Ontario and the
National Capital YMCA-YWCA, proceeded with the official sod turning
ceremony, announcing the start of construction.
“This project is a collaboration model
between the municipality and its partners. With everybody’s
cooperation, the people of the City of Clarence-Rockland will
be able to participate in many sports, cultural and community
activities in a modern environment,” mentioned
Richard Lalonde, Mayor, City of Clarence-Rockland.
This complex, a conception of the architects Shore Tilbe Irwin
and Partners and a construction of Bondfield, will
have an interior pool, an inside track with fitness room, a gymnasium,
a bistro, some multi-purpose rooms and an integrated school and
public library.
This project is an investment of 18.7 million
dollars, 12.2 million of which are a direct contribution from the
City of Clarence-Rockland. The
rest of the sum will be financed by the Conseil scolaire de district
catholique de l’Est de l’Ontario, the National Capital YMCA-YWCA
and the fundraising campaign that has an objective of 4 million dollars.
